The Banff Bed and Breakfast We Can’t Stop Recommending
Every once in a while, you stay somewhere that becomes part of the trip itself.
That’s exactly how Shawn and I felt about our stay at Beaujolais Boutique B&B at Thea’s House in Banff.
We’ve stayed in hotels, vacation rentals, and bed & breakfasts over the years, but this one still stands out as special.
If we ever make it back to Banff, and I’m pretty sure that’s a given, this is where we’ll stay.
Charming From the Moment We Arrived
One of the first things I noticed was that it looked exactly like the photos online. Honestly, you never know with anywhere you book online. We’ve been duped a time or two.
This looked the same. Maybe even better.
It was warm, cozy, beautifully decorated, and had so much character. It felt less like checking into a place to sleep and more like being welcomed into someone’s home.
The Kind of Hosts You Hope For
Our hosts were wonderful.
They genuinely wanted us to have the best experience possible while we were in Banff, and that showed in everything they did.
They were helpful, but not imposing. They happily shared recommendations for restaurants, hikes, and places we may have otherwise overlooked.
One recommendation ended up becoming one of the highlights of our entire trip.
A Hike We Would Have Missed
As we discussed our plans one morning over breakfast, they offered a few hike suggestions, and one of those was Sunshine Meadows.
Honestly, I don’t know that we would have found it on our own. There are so many places to hike in the area that it just wasn’t one that stood out when I was planning the trip.
In the summer, you ride the gondola to the top of the mountain and then spend the day hiking through alpine meadows filled with wildflowers, surrounded by mountain views and crystal-clear lakes.
It is beautiful.
To this day, it’s still one of my favorite hikes, and I can almost guarantee that if we return to Banff during wildflower season, Sunshine Meadows will be at the top of our list again.
I’m so thankful they told us about it.
Thoughtful Little Touches
One thing that impressed me was how much they thought about what guests actually needed.
They offered complimentary bicycles, which made it easy to explore town without ever moving the car.
They also provided complimentary bear spray for hiking in Banff National Park.
Before checking it out, we watched a short safety video showing us exactly how to use it if we ever encountered a bear. Thank goodness, we never needed it- but it gave us peace of mind knowing we were prepared.
It’s one of those thoughtful details that tells you your hosts truly understand the area and care about their guests.
Close to Everything-Without the Crowds
One of my favorite things about the location was that it was just a few blocks from downtown Banff.
You’ll notice a trend- we love to stay places where we can park the car in the evening and just walk to dinner. It’s just what we like to do.
We could easily walk to town, for dinner, a glass of wine, shopping, or just to wander whenever we wanted.
But because it was tucked into a quiet residential neighborhood, we could come back in the evening and enjoy the peaceful atmosphere instead of all the hustle and bustle.
For us, it was the perfect balance.
Let’s Talk About Breakfast…
I have to mention breakfast because it was incredible.
Every morning we were treated to a multi-course meal that honestly kept us full for most of the day.
Fresh pastries.
Fruit and yogurt parfaits.
Egg dishes.
Homemade touches that made breakfast feel like an event instead of just another meal before heading out.
Since there are only a handful of guest rooms, breakfast was served in a cozy dining room with a few other couples getting ready for their own adventures.
It was such a relaxing way to begin each day.
A Place We’d Happily Return To
Some places are simply where you sleep. Others are more memorable.
Beaujolais Boutique B&B at Thea’s House was one of those places for us. Between the welcoming hosts, the incredible breakfasts, the thoughtful extras, and the recommendation that led us to one of our favorite hikes in Banff, it made an unforgettable trip even better.
If our travels ever take us back to Banff, I have a feeling we’ll be unpacking our bags there once again.
